Close but no cigar for the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs, losing by four points to the twelfth ranked Oklahoma Sooners this past Saturday. The bulldogs came up short against the sooners. No Surprise there, I mean the running bulldogs lost to Virginia Tech an Atlantic Coast Conference team, then Longwood Univeristy, a school in Virginia. With this lost the bulldogs are now 0-3 and second to last in the standings tied with Coastal Carolina. Now if you are a Gardner-Webb fan then this may be a little harsh for you to handle but here it goes…. THIS TEAM IS GOING NOWHERE THE WAY THEY ARE PLAYING….SO GIVE UP. The defense are lagging and from the way sport writers are writing this the boys are getting tired and slacking off when they have the lead. Sorry Boys but you can’t do that.
Many fans thought that if they had beaten a nationally ranked team then it would be a replay of last year’s 16 point domination over Kentucky Wildcats. I hate to say this but the cinderella story is OVER! Time to get back into playing some real basketball. A quote from Oklahoma’s head coach pretty much describe how I feel about the Men’s basketball playing
“Gardner-Webb was tremendous. I felt they played with a sense of urgency. They played like a team that was desperate and hungry for a win. … We played like a team that just thought we had to show up.
“Hopefully we can learn a valuable lesson from this.”
Coach Jeff Capel
This quote was about how close his team came to a lost to the Bulldogs. But reread the first part ” They played like a team that was desperate and hungry for a win” I don’t know if people find that uplifiting our just plain trash talking but something needs to be done…. The Bulldogs(0-3) will end their four away games travel playing the South Carolina Gamecocks this Tuesday November 25th before the first away game at Paul Porter’s Arena November 29th against University of Virginia-Wise…
I hope they can pull out a win. Before they lose fans and potential players for upcoming years
Until Next Time….Stay Fly
